Compliance with Iron Tablet Consumption and Postpartum Hemorrhage

Postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide and in Indonesia, and its prevention is strongly influenced by pregnant women's compliance with iron (Fe) tablet consumption, since iron plays an important role in raising hemoglobin levels through erythropoiesis. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between compliance with iron tablet consumption and the occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage at RSUD Syekh Yusuf, Gowa Regency. Methods: This quantitative study used an analytical observational design with a retrospective cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 72 postpartum mothers, with 61 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Compliance data were collected using a questionnaire, while data on postpartum hemorrhage were obtained from medical records. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Most respondents (67.2%) were compliant with iron tablet consumption, while 32.8% were non-compliant. Postpartum hemorrhage occurred in 27.9% of respondents. The Chi-Square test showed a p value of 0.007 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between compliance with iron tablet consumption and the occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage. Health workers are encouraged to strengthen education, motivation, and monitoring of iron tablet compliance among pregnant women.
